# No Más Gringo

> No Más Gringo is a browser game for learning Spanish grammar: an arcade fighting game where Lucha Libre meets language learning. You fight masked luchadores by picking the right Spanish verb form or word before your rival's timer runs out. It plays at https://www.nomasgringo.com/ on phones and desktops, with nothing to install.

## How it works

- Pick a luchador, then pick your Spanish: Mexican Spanish (Español de México) or Spain's Spanish (Español de España). The game doesn't teach vosotros.
- New players can "Start now" and go straight into a starter fight in the present tense, which gets harder as it goes. How you fight (accuracy and speed) places you at a level.
- Players who already speak some Spanish can "Set your level" with a quick check of words and verbs, then fight at that level.
- In each round you answer a fill-in-the-blank prompt. A right answer lands a hit on the rival; a wrong or slow one gets you hit. Combos build up to a special move.
- After each answer a fighter explains the result in a speech bubble, including what the right answer means and, if you got it wrong, what your pick meant.
- The five ranks are Novato (Rookie), Amateur (Contender), Técnico (Pro), Campeón (Champion) and Leyenda (Legend). Higher ranks face faster rivals.
- You can sign in with Google to save your rank, and share a Wordle-style strip of your fight with friends.

## What it teaches

- Six verb tenses and moods: presente (present), pretérito (preterite), imperfecto (imperfect), futuro (future), condicional (conditional) and subjuntivo (present subjunctive).
- Regular -ar, -er and -ir verbs, plus common irregulars such as ser, estar, tener and ir.
- Everyday vocabulary in context, including words that differ between Mexico and Spain (popote / pajita, alberca / piscina, chamba / curro).
- The difference between tenses learners often confuse, such as pretérito vs imperfecto and futuro vs condicional.

Each luchador stands for a part of Spanish grammar:

- El Subjuntivo (The Subjunctive), "El Maestro de la Duda". Special move: La Duda Eterna.
